Also known as rope seals, fibreglass stove gaskets, thermal rope seal, stove rope, or high-temperature glass fibre rope, the seal on the door of your solid fuel appliance ensures safe efficient burning of the fuel and prevents combustion gases escaping into the room.

Replacing your rope seal

• Remove the old rope and scrape away any old adhesive or other debris.
• Measure the width of the groove in millimetres to choose the correct size.
• Measure the length of rope needed, allowing for any curved corners.
• Ends should be butt jointed with no gaps or overlap.
• Squeeze a bead of adhesive into the groove.
• Press the rope in firmly.
• It may look larger than before as the old rope has been compressed and flattened.
• Allow the adhesive to dry for 30 minutes before closing the door. It should feel tighter with the new rope in place.
